Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic Undersea Test & Evaluation Center (AUTEC) Quality of Life Improvements, Building 1678 & 1217
This project involved Quality-of-Life improvements to the living and recreational quarters of military personnel stationed at AUTEC within Andros Islands, Bahamas.
Design and construction activities at Building 1678 (fitness center) included an 800 square foot addition, upgrade to existing bathrooms, installation of new fire protection system through the building and miscellaneous interior renovations.
Design and construction activities at Building 1217 (Sailor’s Single Center) involved a complete interior renovation, including demolition, structural repairs, window replacement, mechanical system replacement and upgrades of electrical and data service for computer workstations, screening room and game room areas. Underground utilities were installed for new fire sprinkler systems, kitchen and bathroom.
The project was located at an active naval facility on remote Andros Island in the Bahamas and involved complex logistics upfront, including the efficient transportation of materials, as all materials needed to be coordinated and barged in from the mainland.
