Fleet Readiness Center Building 189-190 Welding Shop Repairs for U.S. Navy/Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast

This project consisted of renovations and new construction to an existing conglomerate structure known as Buildings 189 & 190 Tank Welding Shops, located on the rear side of Building 101 within the Fleet Readiness Center Southeast at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Fla. The current use of the facility is to function as a welding shop for aircraft parts, and flammable compressed gases are used and stored there. The combined facility was originally a pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) open-sided shed structure with two fully enclosed shops. The renovation area was approximately 11,840 square feet encompassing a high bay shop, low bay administrative/storage space and low bay workspace.

The work includes renovation and new construction with the building’s footprint along with exterior civil/site work required to accommodate the enclosure of the facility. The entire existing facility received structural remediation and was re-roofed. Upgrades to both of the enclosed shops were made, including architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection upgrades, as well as hazardous material abatement.
